FALL EQUINOX FARM WORKSHOP

Join us Sunday September 15th

10am - 1pm

Fall Equinox is just around the corner…

Come Celebrate the season of Fall with us for an Educational Farm Workshop hosted by head farmer Michael Marchand and then enjoy a farm to table edible presentation by chef Maile Risch.

We will start the morning with the farm workshop where you will learn how we prepare for the fall and winter seasons on the farm, the importance of crop biodiversity, how to plan and assess crop plans, the importance of soil health and best practices, and much more! This workshop is perfect for home gardeners, homesteaders or small-scale farmers who would like to learn more about our farming methods and how to put them into practice.

This is an excellent opportunity to learn first hand how to grow a lot of food on a small amount of acreage and what practices we use to achieve this.

You will then enjoy a delicious farm to table edible presentation that celebrates seasonal flavors. Our table will showcase the best of what the land has to offer this time of year. Gluten Free and Vegan options will be available.

About your Workshop Host

Michael developed a passion for growing food in college while attaining his BA in Psychology, and several years later moved to Maui with his wife Lauren in 2015. He began teaching an agriculture program at middle school for several years. In 2017, he had the opportunity to begin farming on a few acres of land and has been growing the Lapa’au Farm business ever since.  The mission of Lapa’au from the start has always been a bio-intensive regenerative approach with the goal of creating closed-loop systems for increased sustainability. Michael manages all client accounts and oversees all farm field operations in addition to helping with planting, harvesting, and prepping new beds for production.

About Your Chef

Maile has been a farm worker at Lapa’au Farm for 2 years. She supports various farm operations including planting, harvesting, caring for crops, and ensuring high-quality produce is packed and delivered to grocery stores, restaurants and food hubs around the island. Maile also tends to her own gardens, growing medicinal herbs for tea blends and edible flowers which she uses as garnish for her culinary creations. Her passion for local foods and regenerative agriculture extends beyond the farm and into the kitchen where she is committed to elevating local cuisine. Her cooking celebrates seasonal foods and offers experiences of connection that nourish all the senses.
